Jennifer Abel finished third and Pamela Ware finished fourth in the preliminary round of the women’s 3m event at the Olympic Games on Friday. Both divers advanced to Saturday’s semifinals.

Abel (Laval, QC) finished with a combined score of 332.40. It’s the second event for the 29-year-old after winning a silver medal on Sunday with teammate Mélissa Citrini-Beaulieu in the women’s 3m springboard synchro event.

“I’m super happy about how it went today,” said Abel. “Obviously, my dives were pretty consistent, no major mistakes. I’m just very happy with how it went and that I was just able to pace myself.”

Ware (Montreal, QC) scored 330.10 points and is fourth following the preliminary round.

“I actually felt really good coming in today, I felt more than ready,” Ware said. “There was a couple little mistakes but I it’s just the prelims and I know that I’m going to be able to clean it up for the semis and the finals.

“I was just so excited to compete, I wasn’t really that nervous, which is good for me. I usually have way too much adrenaline, but I felt really really good today.”

China’s Tingmao Shi is first after the prelims finishing with 350.45 points while her teammate Han Wang is second with a score of 347.25.

The final for the women’s 3m competition is set for Sunday.

« Je me sentais vraiment prête aujourd’hui »,a partagé Ware.
