Swim Nova Scotia – Toronto, ON– Approximately 500 young swimmers from across Canada began competing at Toronto’s Pan Am Sports Centre today at the RBC Canadian Junior Swimming Championships.  This meet is designed to give swimmers ages 13 through 18 the opportunity to race against the best athletes in their age group in Canada.

Halifax Trojan swimmer, Hanna Mountford was Nova Scotia’s top swimmer of the day.  Hanna finished seventh in the 13-14 women’s 200m Backstroke with a 2:21.62, just shy of her personal best time.

Five teams from across Nova Scotia are represented by 12 swimmers, who have all been named to Swim Nova Scotia’s 2017 Canada Games Swim Team.

Pool action continues daily through Sunday, with competition starting at 9:00am local time for preliminaries and 5:30pm local time for finals.  The open water events start at 9am July 31^st; race distances include 2.5km and 5km.
