Edmonton To Host 2023 Football Canada Cup

Football Alberta in partnership with Edmonton Events are proud to announce that Edmonton will be the host site for the Football Canada Cup in 2023.
The Football Canada Cup is a national championship for provincial teams at the U18 men’s level and has been competed for since 1995 (except for the COVID-19 pandemic interruption in 2020 and 2021).
“Working in partnership with Football Alberta it is clear that plans for the Football Canada Cup in 2023 and the World Junior Championships in 2024 in Edmonton promise to elevate our sport to new heights on both the national and international stage,” said Jim Mullin, president of Football Canada. “What is most encouraging is the engagement from community stakeholders in a city that has proven it knows how to rally behind national and international events.”
“Edmonton will once again show its strength in hosting sporting events,” said Cindy Medynski, director of Edmonton Events at Explore Edmonton. “Edmonton Events worked with Football Alberta to attract the 2023 Football Canada Cup to Edmonton, which is a great lead up to our city hosting the 2024 IFAF World Junior Championship. It’s always exciting to have up-and-coming talent on display for sports fans in our city, and the Football Canada Cup will certainly not disappoint.”
Speaking to the event, Victor Cui, Edmonton Elks president and CEO said, “We’re thrilled Canada’s best under-18 football players are headed to Edmonton for the 2023 Football Canada Cup. We know how important grassroots football is to not only our organization, but also our local junior and university programs. Our community is the perfect place for this event, and I’m certain we’ll rally behind it to make it a success.”This year’s event is being hosted in Kelowna, B.C., from July 9-17. Alberta has hosted it five times before in 1995 (Calgary), 1996 (Red Deer), 2001 (Medicine Hat), 2011 (Lethbridge), and 2018 (Calgary).
“It is our hope to showcase Edmonton’s strong football community from top to bottom and work towards two great events in 2023 and 2024,” added Tim Enger, executive director of Football Alberta. “Alberta is the heartland of football in this country, and Edmonton has a unique and wonderful history in the sport. From the Grey Cups, through Vanier Cups and Canadian Bowls, to high school and minor championships, Edmonton is a leader in football development and these events are coming to the perfect place.”
Team Alberta has won the Football Canada Cup six times. This will be the first time it will be hosted in Alberta’s capital city and will dovetail nicely into preparations for Edmonton’s hosting of the 2024 IFAF World Junior Championships in June 2024.

Edmonton accueillera la coupe Football Canada en 2023

Football Alberta, en partenariat avec l’organisme Edmonton Events, est fier d’annoncer qu’Edmonton sera la ville hôte pour la tenue de la Coupe Football Canada en 2023.


La Coupe Football Canada est le championnat national regroupant des équipes provinciales masculines de catégorie MU-18 et est disputée depuis 1995 (à l’exception des années 2020 et 2021 en raison de la pandémie de la COVID-19). 


« En travaillant ainsi avec Football Alberta, il est clair qu’organiser la Coupe Football Canada en 2023 et le Championnat du monde junior en 2024 à Edmonton offre la possibilité d’amener notre sport vers de nouveaux sommets autant au niveau national qu’à l’échelle internationale, a déclaré Jim Mullin, président de Football Canada. Le plus encourageant, c’est de voir à quel point les parties prenantes de la communauté s’impliquent dans une ville qui a montré qu’elle sait comment donner son appui quand il y a des compétitions nationales et internationales. » 


« Edmonton va encore une fois montrer sa force dans l’organisation d’événements sportifs, a affirmé Cindy Medynski, directrice d’Edmonton Events chez Explore Edmonton. Edmonton Events a travaillé avec Football Alberta pour amener la Coupe Football Canada 2023 à Edmonton, ce qui préparera parfaitement la table pour la tenue du Championnat du monde junior de l’IFAF 2024 dans notre ville. C’est toujours emballant de mettre en vitrine des athlètes de talent prometteurs et de les faire découvrir aux amateurs de sport de notre ville, et la Coupe Football Canada ne nous décevra certainement pas à ce chapitre. »
À propos de la tenue de l’événement, Victor Cui, président et chef de la direction des Elks d’Edmonton, a déclaré : « Nous sommes ravis que les meilleurs joueurs de football de moins de 18 ans au Canada se retrouveront à Edmonton en vue de la Coupe Football Canada 2023. Nous savons à quel point le football local est important non seulement pour notre organisation, mais aussi pour nos programmes locaux aux niveaux junior et universitaire. Notre communauté représente l’endroit parfait pour la tenue de cette compétition et je suis certain que nous allons tous ensemble afficher notre appui pour en faire un succès. »Le tournoi de cette année aura lieu à Kelowna, en Colombie-Britannique, du 9 au 17 juillet. L’Alberta a accueilli ce tournoi à cinq reprises jusqu’ici, soit en 1995 (Calgary), 1996 (Red Deer), 2001 (Medicine Hat), 2011 (Lethbridge) et 2018 (Calgary). 


« Nous comptons mettre en vitrine la forte communauté de football d’Edmonton au grand complet dans le cadre de notre travail pour présenter ces deux grandes compétitions en 2023 et 2024, a indiqué Tim Enger, directeur général de Football Alberta. L’Alberta se trouve au cœur de la pratique de notre sport dans ce pays, tandis qu’Edmonton a une longue et belle tradition en matière de football. Qu’il s’agisse des matchs de la Coupe Grey, de la Coupe Vanier ou des matchs de bowl canadiens, ou encore des matchs de championnat des ligues mineures et d’écoles secondaires, Edmonton est un chef de file en matière de développement du football et ces compétitions ne pourraient pas avoir lieu à un meilleur endroit. »
Équipe Alberta a remporté la Coupe Football Canada à six reprises. Ce sera la première fois que cette compétition aura lieu dans la capitale de l’Alberta et elle fera parfaitement le lien avec la tenue du Championnat du monde junior de l’IFAF 2024 à Edmonton, au mois de juin 2024.
