TEPIC, Nayarit, Mexico, July 18, 2022 – An undefeated Cuban side beat Canada 3-0 (25-23, 25-23, 25-19) for gold at the Men’s Pan American Cup Norceca Final Six tournament on Sunday night in Tepic, Nayarit, Mexico.

Canada brings home silver with the team’s only losses (5-2) occurring against Cuba (7-0). The U.S. won the bronze match 3-0 over Puerto Rico.

Last night, outside hitter Miguel Angel Lopez of Cuba collected 13 points on 12 kills and one block, and opposite hitter Jesus Herrera reached 14 points on nine attacks, two blocks and three points from serves. Middle blocker Robertlandy Simón added nine points.

Outside hitter Brandon Koppers led Canada in scoring with 11 points on eight kills and three aces, and opposite hitter Jordan Canham contributed 10 points on six kills, two blocks and two aces.

“This is a great defensive team, we did very well and proved what we are made of,” Koppers said in the post-match interview. “We take every point as experience, we are preparing for the Pan American Cup in August (in Gatineau) back in Canada, so for some of our younger guys it was a great experience. The tournament was amazing.”

Canadian Jordan Pereira was named the best digger and best libero of the tournament.

TEPIC (Nayarit, Mexique) 17 juillet 2022 – Une équipe cubaine invaincue a battu le Canada en trois manches (25-23, 25-23 et 25-19) pour ainsi remporter l’or au tournoi masculin Final Six de la Coupe panaméricaine de la NORCECA, dimanche soir à Tepic, dans l’État du Nayarit au Mexique. 

Le Canada ramène donc la médaille d’argent après avoir subi ses deux seules défaites (fiche de 5-2) contre Cuba (7-0).

L’attaquant cubain Miguel Angel Lopez a récolté 13 points à l’aide de 12 attaques marquantes et d’un contre, tandis que l’attaquant Jesus Herrera a amassé 14 points grâce à neuf attaques, deux contres et trois points au service. Le contreur central Robertlandy Simón a ajouté neuf points. 

L’attaquant Brandon Koppers a été le chef de file du Canada au chapitre des points avec 11, qu’il a enregistrés grâce à huit attaques marquantes et trois as, et l’attaquant Jordan Canham y est allé d’une contribution de 10 points au moyen de six attaques marquantes, deux contres et deux as.

« Nous avons une excellente équipe en défensive, nous avons très bien fait et nous avons montré de quoi nous sommes faits, a déclaré Koppers en entrevue d’après-match. Nous considérons que chaque point est une expérience à vivre, nous nous préparons en vue de la Coupe panaméricaine au mois d’août (à Gatineau) chez nous au Canada, alors pour certains de nos plus jeunes joueurs, ç’a été une très belle expérience. Le tournoi a été formidable. »

Le Canadien Jordan Pereira a été nommé meilleur récupérateur et meilleur libéro du tournoi.
