Canada Artistic Swimming Welcomes Sport Integrity Commissioner
Ottawa, April 5, 2022 – Canada Artistic Swimming (CAS) congratulates the Sport Dispute Resolution Centre of Canada (SDRCC) on its announcement today of Sarah-Ève Pelletier as Canada’s first Sport Integrity Commissioner. The Office of the Sport Integrity Commissioner will operate independently to receive complaints about alleged violations of the Universal Code of Conduct to Address and Prevent Maltreatment in Sport (UCCMS).
“We have fully supported the establishment of this position and are thrilled with the announcement of its first commissioner,” said Jackie Buckingham, CEO of Canada Artistic Swimming. “As an independent office, it will provide another critical step in safeguarding athletes to ensure all sport is free of harassment, abuse, or maltreatment. We want to see everyone achieve their athletic potential and realize the health and wellness benefits of a dynamic, inclusive, and safe sport environment.”
In January of 2022, after several months of extensive consultation, Canada Artistic Swimming unveiled a comprehensive Safe and Welcoming Sport Policy Suite which included the adoption and support of the UCCMS. The policies are designed to be used by all artistic swimming PTSOs and Affiliated Organizations across Canada.
“Sarah-Ève Pelletier brings such a wealth of experience to this role, with her extensive background in international sport law and as a former high performance athlete in artistic swimming, she thoroughly understands the sport context” continued Buckingham. “We look forward to working alongside Sarah-Ève when she begins her position in May.”
