Women’s Roster for the First Week of Volleyball Nations League

May 31, 2022: Team Canada’s head coach Shannon Winzer has announced the players in the U.S. this week to kick off the 2022 edition of Volleyball Nations League.
 
“After a short training camp, which included our red and white matches at Volleyball Canada’s Nationals in Edmonton, it’s exciting to be starting VNL with this group of talented athletes,” said Winzer. “The lineup may change as the tournament progresses, and we’re looking forward to week three when we come home to play in Alberta again.”
 
The roster, listed below, includes players who were on last year’s VNL roster, with a couple of new faces.
 
The first leg takes place Shreveport-Bossier City, Louisiana, May 31 to June 5, with Canada playing its first match, against Poland, on June 01 at 5 pm local time (6 pm EDT).  After the U.S., the women’s team heads to the Philippines, and then back to Canada for the third leg, June 28 to July 03 (Seven Chiefs Sportsplex, Tsuut’ina Nation). The women’s finals for 2022 will be held in Ankara, Turkey.
 
This fourth edition of VNL runs from May 31 to July 24 and includes both men’s and women’s competition (16 teams each gender). The Canadian men’s roster will be released before the team kicks off its campaign on June 07 in Ottawa at the Arena at TD Place.

Canada’s women’s team finished 14th in its first-ever VNL last year, which was in Rimini, Italy.  The U.S. team, also reigning Olympic champion, was the overall women’s winner in 2021, followed by Brazil and Japan.
 
All matches of VNL 2022 will be streamed on Volleyball TV, and Canadian viewers can follow the action at www.cbcsports.ca live.

Dévoilement de la formation féminine pour la première semaine de la Ligue des Nations

31 mai 2022 – L’entraîneure-chef d’Équipe Canada Shannon Winzer a dévoilé la liste des joueuses qui se retrouveront aux États-Unis cette semaine en vue de la première étape de l’édition féminine 2022 de la Ligue des Nations de la FIVB. 

 « Après avoir tenu un court camp d’entraînement au cours duquel nous avons notamment disputé nos matchs intraéquipe Rouge vs Blanc dans le cadre des Championnats nationaux de Volleyball Canada à Edmonton, c’est emballant de pouvoir entreprendre la Ligue des Nations avec ce groupe d’athlètes talentueuses, a déclaré Winzer. L’alignement pourrait changer au fil du tournoi et nous avons hâte à la troisième semaine, quand nous reviendrons à la maison pour jouer à nouveau en Alberta. »

La formation, dont la composition est dévoilée ci-dessous, comprend surtout des joueuses qui faisaient partie de l’équipe de l’an dernier en Ligue des Nations en plus de quelques nouveaux visages. 

Cette première étape se déroulera à Shreveport-Bossier City, en Louisiane, du 31 mai au 5 juin, alors que le Canada disputera son premier match contre la Pologne, le 1er juin à 17 h heure locale (18 h (HE)). Après son séjour aux États-Unis, l’équipe féminine se rendra aux Philippines, puis reviendra au Canada en vue de la troisième étape, du 28 juin au 3 juillet au Seven Chiefs Sportsplex, sur le territoire de la Première Nation Tsuu T’ina. 

Les finales de la saison 2022 chez les femmes auront lieu à Ankara, en Turquie.
Cette quatrième édition de la Ligue des Nations se déroulera du 31 mai au 24 juillet et comprend un volet masculin de même qu’un volet féminin (16 équipes par genre). La formation de l’équipe canadienne masculine sera dévoilée avant que l’équipe lance sa saison, le 7 juin à l’Aréna de la Place TD à Ottawa.

L’équipe féminine du Canada a fini en 14e place à sa toute première participation à la Ligue des Nations l’an dernier, quand la compétition a eu lieu à Rimini, en Italie. L’équipe des États-Unis, qui est aussi la championne olympique en titre, l’a emporté au classement général en 2021, suivie du Brésil et du Japon.
