The position of Sport Development Manager is a new role within the Society staffing structure. This role is designed to plan and implement program delivery intent on improving the knowledge base and practical application of male and female coaches and officials throughout the province of British Columbia. The Sport Development Manager will be directly responsible for the delivery of both the National and Provincial Coach Education and Officials Education training and certification program, the initiation of an FHBC coach and official mentorship program, and the further development and delivery of a targeted coach and officials professional development pathway. This position is also designed to be a primary conduit to the club community sector in both the identification and support for critical sport development drivers and in the planning and execution of the FHBC elementary and middle school athlete program. The Sport Development Manager will be responsible for the coordination of each of the areas outlined within this job description and will report as a staff member of the Society to the Executive Director.
 
Specific Responsibilities:
 
Coach Development Program
 
Administration, Coordination and Planning Support
To take the lead in the planning, practical coordination, and delivery of the National Coach Certification Program (NCCP)
To take the lead in the planning, practical coordination, and delivery of the FHBC Provincial Coach Education (PCE) Pathway
To liaise with the Field Hockey BC Coaching Director (responsible for policy oversight and strategic direction for the Coaching portfolio) to ensure that all coach education programs are coordinated to the standards expected by Field Hockey BC
To liaise with the FHBC Head Provincial Coach and Performance Manager in the coordination and training of Learning Facilitators for both NCCP and PCE Pathways
To complete the necessary administrative requirements in the delivery of the NCCP and PCE pathway programs and to manage the upload of both NCCP candidate information to the Coaches Association of Canada (CAC) ‘Locker’ database, and PCE candidate information to the FHBC internal coach database
To liaise as necessary with Field Hockey Canada staff in the delivery of the NCCP pathway 
To take a primary lead in the planning, practical coordination, and delivery of an FHBC Annual Coach and Officiating Seminar
To liaise with the FHBC Head Provincial Coach and Performance Manager in assessing the professional development needs of FHBC athlete program coaches and put in place an annual calendar plan for the delivery of formal coach education and/or professional development opportunity to meet such need
To assist the FHBC Head Provincial and Performance Manager in the development of an FHBC targeted coach list and an associated professional development pathway
To take a lead role in the ongoing development of the coaching section of the FHBC website.
 
Officials Development Program
 
Administration, Coordination and Planning Support
To take the lead in the organization and delivery of the National Umpiring Certification Program (course facilitation) and the necessary coordination of learning facilitators in each Region. To include logistical support for practical assessments for Community, Provincial and Regional levels of Certification
To assess and coordinate professional development opportunities that include but are not limited to; targeted umpire appointments to FHBC events; umpire mentoring and assessment; umpire manager recruitment and retention; and the recruitment and training of course learning facilitators
To take the lead in the development, re-initiation, coordination, support, and delivery for the FHBC Umpire Mentorship and Education Program
To take a leading role in the development of an FHBC targeted officials list and an associated professional development pathway
To take the lead in the development, coordination, support, and delivery for a new FHBC Technical Officiating Mentorship and Education Program. To liaise with members of the FHBC team to update existing technical officiating educational resource material and begin planning for community outreach and opportunity 
To liaise with the Field Hockey BC Umpiring Director (responsible for policy oversight and strategic direction for the officiating portfolio) to ensure that support for officiating development meets identified portfolio priority
To oversee the necessary record keeping and the timely management of the FHBC officiating database
To take a lead role in the ongoing development of the officiating section of the FHBC website.
 
Resource Development 
 
Administration, Coordination and Planning Support
To take a leading role in the transfer management of existing coach and official classroom material to the FHBC online education platform (Moodle). To prioritize the transfer of PCE pathway material and investigate the potential for the transfer of umpire assessor course material
To work with members of the FHBC team in the development of video resource material designed to both enhance educational pathways but also to begin the planning for practical education components to be transferred to the FHBC online platform
To work with the FHBC Head Provincial Coach and Performance Manager in the production of coach educational resources designed to enhance the professional development of coaches within FHBC programming, as well as, resources complimentary to the PCE and NCCP pathways
To work with the FHBC Events and Officials Coordinator in the production of officiating educational resources designed to enhance the professional development of officials within FHBC programming, as well as, resources complimentary to the National officiating pathway
To take a leading role in assessing the need to update formal educational material and put planning in place to meet such need. To liaise with Field Hockey Canada staff as required.
 
Club Community Engagement and Support
 
Administration, Coordination and Support
To take a lead in the area of club community outreach and assist in support planning for the FHBC club and league membership
To attend pertinent local club and league meetings and report on areas of emphasis. In doing so, assist FHBC to consider such areas for annual support planning
To take the lead in the promotion, coordination, and delivery of the FHBC Elementary and Middle Schools Program. To liaise with the FHBC Head Provincial Coach and Performance Manager in the identification and appointment of coaches according to program demand
To liaise with the FHBC Events and Officials Coordinator for all equipment needs and/or orders required for the delivery of the Schools Program.
 
Terms
 
The Sport Development Manager will be based at the FHBC office in Surrey, BC and the position is offered as a full-time contract (37.5 hours per week). The initial contract will be for a period of 7 months (from January 27, 2020) with the option to extend for a further 12 months (pending review) and the annual salary range for this position is $38,000-$46,000.

Previous experience within sports administration is an advantage but not essential for application.
