The Ottawa Community Sport Media Team is currently seeking a sport event planner for an 8-week period this summer, to work full-time (35 hours per week) from May 27-July 19, 2019 (flexible).
About our organization:
The Ottawa Community Sport Media Team is a not-for-profit organization devoted to celebrating the successes of our local amateur sports community through the Ottawa Sportspage newspaper and SportsOttawa.com web site, and to provide free sports opportunities in conjunction with our partner sports clubs to local low-income children and youth.
The Ottawa Sportspage is a free monthly newspaper that covers high school, university, community club, junior leagues and elite amateur sport. Our motivation is to recognize the achievements of Ottawa's grassroots sports community, which are almost always overlooked by other media sources. Our organization also works hand-in-hand with the Ottawa Community Housing Foundation's recLINK program to deliver free sports opportunities to children/youth from local social housing communities in a program called the Connecting Athletes of All Means to Paths in Sport Project (CAMPS Project).

About the position:
The Sport Event Planner will help plan the 2nd-annual edition of our 10 Sports, 1 Day Multi-Sport Tournament FUNdraiser, which will be held in September.

The Sport Event Planner's responsibilities will include:
General event planning for:
-developing sports organization relationships
-CAMPS Project partner recognition
-local business partnerships
-outreach to participant teams
-creation of promotional posters/materials
-assist in answering inquiries
-sharing information with participants
Strong assets for a successful applicant would include work experience or post-secondary studies in business, sport management, event planning, communications or a related field.
Work hours are flexible, as are dates of employment. The Sport Event Planner will be based at their home/remote office. In-person meetings with tournament organizers or others involved in the event will occur regularly, alongside frequent contact by phone and e-mail.
This position is offered as part of the Canada Summer Jobs program. Applicants must meet the following criteria:
• be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
• be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment*; and,
• have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
