Title: Statistical analysis of high performance group training databases to identify high-risk injury situations


The candidate will assist with analyzing training data gathered daily from high performance Canadian athletes who train at INS Québec. The main objective of these analyses is to explore the relationship between the various training or fitness markers and events, such as injuries and chronic pain. This is part of “load monitoring,” which aims to identify situations with a high risk of injury in order to prevent them. The goal of this project is to continue to improve the performance of Canadian athletes while ensuring their health is maintained. The candidate will work with an integrated team comprised of exercise physiologists, sports analysts and senior strength and conditioning coaches.



  • Data engineering:
    • Data cleaning and correction
    • Structuring and cross-checking information available
    • Prepare data for modelling
  • Statistical modelling
    • Develop calculation engines for various training load indices
    • Compare training load indices and injuries to identify the impacts on each other
    • Calculate risk of injury based on training load
    • Machine learning approach
  • Data visualization
    • Develop feedback tools to better account for the impact of training load on injuries



  • Canadian citizen or permanent resident
  • Student enrolled in a M.Sc. or Ph. D.
  • Sound knowledge in statistical modelling, forecasting and machine learning
  • Knowledge of high-performance sport, an asset

Duration: 40 weeks

Hours of work: 14 hrs/week

Hourly rate: $22 (subject to obtaining a grant)

Start date: Immediate
