Position Summary:

Reporting to the Manager, Marketing & Partnerships, this internship role will assist with the strategy and execution of Ontario Soccer’s marketing and business development initiatives. The placement will expose enthusiastic sport management students to many facets of strategic marketing, including the inter-departmental promotion of Ontario Soccer’s events and programs/services, partnership development and servicing, branding, and the sourcing and application of market research.


Key Duties and Areas of Responsibility:

The primary responsibilities of this internship position will include:         


  • Playing an integral role in the planning, execution and roll-out of the Ontario Soccer’s rebrand
  • Assisting with Ontario Soccer’s brand marketing in a way that revitalizes the brand perception of the organization
  • Creating social media/digital content that helps personify the Ontario Soccer brand amongst stakeholders and members
  • Monitoring and enforcing brand protection of the Ontario Soccer marks and brand across all internal departments and external stakeholders
  • Identifying trends in the amateur sport sponsorship industry and best practices in the marketplace
  • Generating creative solutions to increase participation and engagement in Ontario Soccer events and programs
  • Analyzing Ontario Soccer registration data and conducting market research to create a comparative data model of the typical Ontario Soccer registrant
  • Contributing administrative support as needed


Business Development:

  • Providing support through partnership research, servicing and communication
  • Continually thinking of innovative ways to cross-promote and enrich partnership activation
  • Preparation of collateral materials including partnership discovery and proposal decks
  • Drafting brand briefs on potential partners and sponsorship categories


  • Self-motivated team player with a strong desire to learn about sports marketing, branding and sponsorship
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and oral)
  • Effective time management and organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and manage competing priorities, while meeting various deadlines
  • Completed or working towards a post-secondary education in sport marketing, business or a related discipline
  • Graphic design proficiency considered a strong asset

What the Intern Will Learn:

The successful candidate will be given hands-on work experience in the areas of marketing, business development and branding. A focus will be on training the intern to think both strategically and operationally in marketing an organization as complex and large as Ontario Soccer. Direct contact and coordination with sponsors and partners will provide valuable partnership servicing experience.
