OVERVIEW

The 2019 Canada Winter Games Red Deer Host Society is looking to fill the position of Manager, Sponsorship.

In less than two years, thousands of our country’s best and brightest will set their sights on Red Deer as we host the 2019 Canada Winter Games. Up to 3,600 participants from across Canada, 400 media, 500 VIPs, 500 officials and thousands of visitors will join us for the two-week event. Featuring 19 sports and a major arts and cultural festival, the 2019 Canada Games will be the largest event in Red Deer’s history.

The Manager, Sponsorship will manage and coordinate activities related to sponsorship. They  will lead a small team of sponsorship staff and will manage the budget for the business unit. Working closely with the marketing team, the successful incumbent will support the sponsorship sales program, manage key client relationships and partner servicing and ensure that sponsor benefits are fulfilled both before and during Games-time events.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This role will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

  • Representing the Host Society as a member of the sponsorship team;

  • Conducting research and analysis of prospective sponsors to demonstrate alignment between Games sponsorship opportunities and sponsor objectives;

  • Creating strategies to acquire and solicit prospective sponsors;

  • Developing and maintaining strong relationships with sponsors and key contacts;

  • Preparing sponsorship proposals and presentations;

  • Leading the development and implementation of business processes to ensure sponsorship obligations are fulfilled as defined in all existing and new contracts and agreements in consultation with interdependent functional areas;  

  • Supporting the planning, organization, and presentation of sponsor recognition and/or fundraising events according to sponsorship contracts and the revenue generation plan. Delegating, organizing, and coordinating the support and participation of other staff and volunteers in delivery of these events;  

  • Working closely with the Sponsorship Committee.

REQUIRED SKILLS, EXPERIENCES AND ABILITIES

  • An undergraduate degree or diploma in Business, Commerce, Arts, Physical Education or other related fields.

  • Five or more years of related experience that includes sponsorship, fundraising, and/or event planning. A related combination of education and experience will be considered.

  • Valid class 5 driver’s license.

  • Creative, results-oriented and able to meet tight deadlines.

  • Ability to work in a team environment where duties and reporting levels are shared.

  • Demonstrated ability to raise revenue through sponsorship and a proven track record of successfully meeting revenue targets.

  • Demonstrated ability to set priorities and manage multiple projects on-site and off-site.

  • Strong organizational and administration skills with a focus on attention to detail.

  • Excellent communication skills, written and oral, in English is required and fluency in French is an asset.

  • Experience with Google’s G Suite programs, Gmail, Docs, Slides, Calendar, etc. (or equivalent Microsoft Office programs), is required.

  • Ability to be flexible and work in a team environment with both staff and volunteers.

  • Knowledge and experience working in a not-for-profit, events, sports or multi-sport Games environment is an asset.

NOTE

  • Formal office hours are Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.; however, flexibility will be required. This may include various evening/weekend committee work, varying workload/ deadlines, Games time requirements, etc.
