Volleyball Canada to host Women’s Challenger event during Edmonton 2018 Nationals
January 12, 2018
Volleyball Canada - Jan. 11, 2018: Volleyball Canada is pleased to confirm that it is hosting the NORCECA Women’s Nations League Challenger tournament (May 17 to 20, 2018) during the 2018 Nationals in Edmonton.
The Challenger is part of the women’s qualification process for the new FIVB Volleyball Nations League (VNL), which is being launched this year.
“Not only is this an important tournament for our Women’s National Team, it’s also a great opportunity to expose young volleyball players participating at Nationals to international volleyball,” said Volleyball Canada’s indoor High Performance Director, Julien Boucher. "With tournaments such as the Nations League Challenger, we hope to build on the progress the women’s team made last year, and work hard to prepare for the 2018 World Championships held later in the year.”
Six countries, including Canada, from the NORCECA (North, Central America and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation) will bring their women's national teams to Edmonton.
Edmonton 2018, presented by Inter Pipeline, will be Canada’s largest celebration of indoor volleyball to date, with more than 10,000 participants in various age categories vying for national supremacy on more than 50 courts at the Edmonton Expo Centre (formerly Northlands).
Canada’s men’s program will also play international matches in Edmonton, tentatively May 16 to 18, but details are yet to be confirmed.
