Canada Soccer – The road to the FIFA Club World Cup for the 2017 Canadian Championship winners will pass through Colorado this month as Toronto FC kicks off the 2018 Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League. Toronto FC will face Colorado Rapids in a two-match Round of 16 series with the away match on Tuesday 20 February in Commerce City and the return home match on Canadian soil at BMO Field on Tuesday 27 February in Toronto.

“On behalf of Canada Soccer and Canadian soccer fans, we wish Toronto FC all the best as they start their quest to add another title to their historic 2017-18 campaign,” said Canada Soccer President Steven Reed. “Canada’s MLS teams have competed well against the best club teams in CONCACAF in this competition and we look forward to seeing the 2017 Canadian Championship winners against the best club teams from around the world at the FIFA Club World Cup.”

From 16 finalists in February, the Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League winner from late April will move on to face five other confederation champions in the FIFA Club World Cup from 12 to 22 December in the United Arab Emirates. Toronto FC earned Canada’s sole spot in Champions League by defeating Montréal Impact 3-2 on aggregate in the Canadian Championship Final at BMO Field on 27 June 2017.

Toronto FC are six-time Canadian Championship winners and have played in the CONCACAF Champions League four previous times.

Since the launch of the Canadian Championship in 2008, three Canadian winners have reached the Quarter-final stage or further in CONCACAF Champions League: Toronto FC once (Semi-finals in 2011-12), Montréal twice (Quarter-finals in 2008-09 and Grand Final in 2014-15), and Vancouver Whitecaps FC once (Semi-finals in 2016-17).
