May 16, 2018

Vaughan, ON – It was an excellent week for a number of the new League1 Ontario teams for 2018 and a return to form for some of the traditional powerhouses.

In the women's division, Hamilton United Elite showed their form has been no flash in the pan after a 1-0 win over Unionville Milliken, while fellow newcomers DeRo United defeated North Miss 3-0 to maintain their unbeaten streak. Hamilton and DeRo finished the matchweek in joint-first place in the women's division.

On the men's side, new side Darby FC advanced in the L1 Cup by knocking out Alliance United FC in a thrilling penalty kick tiebreaker. Alliance was not to be deterred from getting their first win in League1 though, returning to league play on the weekend and beating Toronto Skillz 3-0.

Powerhouse sides like Vaughan Azzurri men and women, Durham women and FC London have had some patchy form to start the season, but exploded in Matchweek 3 with important wins. Vaughan men finally found a solution to a well-organized Aurora side while Vaughan women toppled West Ottawa.

Meanwhile, Durham women and FC London men respectively spoiled home match debuts for Oakville Blue Devils and Woodbridge Strikers and Sigma FC exploded out the gates with a 4-1 win over Windsor TFC.
