Where is SIRC located?
We are located at 180 Elgin Street, Suite 1400, Ottawa, Ontario Canada, K2P 2K3.

Is the SIRC resource center open to the public?
Yes, the resource center is open to the public, Monday to Friday from 8:30 to 4:30 EST. When you visit the resource center you have access to all of SIRC’s resources including reference librarians, online access to the SportDiscus™ Full-text database as well as other bibliographic databases such as SocINDEX, Academic Search Premier, CINAHL, Business Source Premier, Regional Business News, ERIC, and the entire SIRC Collection.

What is in the SIRC Collection?
The SIRC Collection has 8 million pages of sport and fitness material. Users can search over 760,000 qualified references from thousands of international periodicals, books, e-journals, conference proceedings, theses, dissertations, and websites as well as direct links to full-text articles dating as far back as the 1700’s and encompassing over 62 different languages. A periodical list highlighting some of the journals in the SIRC Collection is posted on this website. The SIRC Collection also contains reference books, book chapters, conference proceedings, dissertations and theses, research reports and audiovisual material.

How is SIRC related to the SportDiscus™ ?
Over 30 years ago, SIRC created a bibliographic database, the SportDiscus™ , to provide online access to its collection. The database eventually became the world's leading database in sport, health, fitness and sports medicine. SIRC sold the SportDiscus™ to EBSCO Publishing Inc., in 2005 however, continues to provide indexing, document delivery and access to sport and fitness associations through SIRC's membership.

Does SIRC provide training on searching its collection and resources?
SIRC provides onsite training for individuals and classes where students learn a variety of skills for searching online resources. SIRC also hosts skill development seminars for members of the sport community. These seminars are designed to provide information on topics that are relevant and important to those working in the sport industry. For more information, click on Seminar Series.

How can I get my journal indexed in the SIRC Collection?
The first step in having a journal included in the SIRC Collection is for it to be evaluated by the SIRC Review Committee. Please send an issue(s) of the journal to SIRC for evaluation. You may send it in electronic format via email to acquisitions@sirc.ca or you can send it by mail to: Acquisitions Department, SIRC - Sport Research, 180 Elgin St., Suite 1400, Ottawa, ON K2P 2K3, Canada.

How do I become a member of SIRC?
Simply visit www.sirc.ca/membership and you can register for monthly or annual access.

What is SIRC Online?
SIRC Online is a web-based search interface tbat allows members to search the electronic documents currently available in the SIRC Collection.

How do I get copies of documents?
Through the cost-effective and efficient SIRC document delivery service, the Sport Information Resource Centre provides 72 hour (3 business days) turnover on their document delivery of article photocopies for a large proportion of the material indexed in the SIRC Collection and in the SPORTDiscus™ database. Ordering is made easy with direct links from the SportDiscus™ database. Simply identify the article and follow the link to SIRC Document Delivery shopping cart. How do I post a press release to the email service?
To post a press release, you can contact us at mediarelations@sirc.ca with your press release.

How do I post a job to the job board?
You can post a job opportunity in sport at www.sirc.ca/careers/suggest.cfm. On the right hand side there is box labelled Search. At the bottom of the box is a link Post a job. Click on this link and you can fill out the information form concerning the job you want to post and click Finish.

How do I apply for the SIRC Research Award?
Invitation to submit papers for the SIRC Research Award is usually announced in September of each year. For more information, please email Research Award, or phone us at +1 (613) 231-7472, Ext 243 or Toll Free: +1 (800) 665-6413 North America.

Can I get SIRC to do my research for me?
SIRC librarians are specialized in the areas of sport and fitness, sport science and sport medicine as well as health and wellness. With access to SIRC’s vast collection of sport information, we are uniquely positioned to provide researchers with subject specific information required for preparing newsletters, news articles, research papers, lesson materials, position statements, etc. Please see the SIRC Literature Review service for further information in this area.
