Canadian Sport Tourism Alliance – Destinations from across Canada will be gathering in Halifax, Nova Scotia March 7-9, 2018 for Sport Events Congress 2018 (SEC18).

Taking place in the brand new Halifax Convention Centre, Sport Events Congress is the largest gathering of sport, tourism professionals, event suppliers and event management firms in Canada. One of the highlights is the Sport Events Exchange which uses a speed dating format to bring together event rights holders with destinations who are seeking new and interesting events to host. This fast-paced, exciting business-to-business marketplace has resulted in many successful matches over the years.

The outstanding professional development speaker lineup leads off with Tom Grilk, the Chief Executive Officer of the Boston Athletic Association/Boston Marathon, who will share how a tragic moment propelled the Boston Strong movement.  Warren Harper, an expert in the field of risk management, will also be one of the featured presenters.  One of the breakout sessions is devoted to new, unorthodox and trending events that are taking sport tourism by storm.

This year SEC18 is featuring daily ‘Sweatworking’ sessions where attendees can go for a run, or try out Tai Chi or Zumba and continue networking while working out. It also includes plenty of time for in-depth conversation with colleagues during the social side of SEC18, beginning with a visit to the historic Alexander Keith’s Brewery Tour, hosted by Halifax, where there is sure to be down home east coast hospitality and music. The Flamingle social that follows will definitely have a pink theme going on.  And Halifax will also invite delegates to join in the fun of a doubleheader at the U SPORTS Men’s Basketball championships.
