Identify and Avoid Conflicts of Interest in Sport Organizations

Presented by the Sport Disputes Resolution Centre of Canada
Friday 9 – 10:30 a.m.

Decision-making in the sport system can be challenging and, often in smaller sport organizations, conflicts of interest are unavoidable. In order to prevent disputes from occurring in the decision-making process, it is important to be able to identify and address conflicts of interest. In this workshop, conflicts of interest will be defined and explained in a sports-related context and key elements will be highlighted to help identify and categorize them so that appropriate action may be taken. Tips on preventing and declaring conflicts of interest will also be provided during this interactive presentation.

All In: Working together as a united CKC team

Friday 1 – 6 p.m.

For our athletes to have sustained success on the international stage, we must work as a team.

Producing the best paddlers in the world means having strong programs at every stage of development — from the club and community level, to the provincial and territorial level, to National Teams and seamlessly onto international podiums. Achieving success throughout this pathway, across disciplines, requires all partners to work as a united team.

It is easy to say, but what would that actually look like? Every link in a chain is vital for it strength. In the same way, every member of a team needs to be strong and respected for their integral part in getting the job done. For a team to succeed, everyone needs to understand and embrace their role, and feel confident and respected in what they are doing to reach both their own goals and the goals of the team.

This workshop is a chance for all members to share their ideas about the future of our national paddling system. Facilitated by Ron Wuotila, this will be a foundational discussion on how the High Performance system and all the pieces that support it, can work collaboratively to achieve the best result. All in, as one team.
