ABOUT U SPORTS
U SPORTS is the national brand for University Sports in Canada. Every year, over 12,000 student-athletes and 500 coaches from 56 universities vie for 21 national championships in 12 different sports. U SPORTS also provides higher performance international opportunities for Canadian student-athletes at Winter and Summer Universiades, as well as numerous world university championships.
Objective of Web & Statistics Intern is to help manage and update website content, including sports news, multimedia content, schedules and statistics for regular seasons, playoffs and championships.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITES
Supporting the implementation of the web and statistics strategy
Posting and updating the website (new version of usports.ca to be launched early September)
Analyzing and testing content on the web to ensure that information is accurate, accessible, and user-friendly
Monitoring schedules, statistics, and standings for all sports and teams to ensure accuracy
Archiving video, photos, historical records, schedule / results, statistics, and standings
Generating weekly analytics reports
Coordinating with digital partners and the Communications and the Social Media teams
Selected candidates will develop essential skills and gain valuable experience in one or more of the following areas, with the aim to prepare them for a successful career in the highly competitive sports and entertainment industry.
Developing and executing a website/digital strategy
Knowledge in the content management systems (CMS) - PrestoSports and Charcoal
Writing, designing and developing for the web
Working efficiently within a multidisciplinary team and with digital partners
Sports statistics and computing
· Working toward a Bachelor’s degree in Web Design, Computer Science, Information Technology or Digital Media, or related undergraduate programs.
· Outstanding technical skills
· Knowledge of HTML and CSS
· Demonstrated experience with responsive websites
· Ability to work effectively with other team members as well as function independently
- Initiative and ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
· Enthusiastic, well organized and a self-starter
· Bilingualism is preferred, but not required
· Quick study and willingness to learn.
START DATE: January 2018 (to be determined based on student availability)
To be considered for this position, all applicants must be currently enrolled in a program approved by a university or college and require the internship for academic credit needed to graduate.
COMPENSATION: Performance based honorarium up to $1,500 may be awarded at end of internship term.
