Peak Power Sport Development is seeking practicum/interns for the Strength and Conditioning Program. These are unpaid positions for enthusiastic and hardworking individuals who wish to build their experience as a Strength & Conditioning Coach. Experience is vital when working with athletes in a high performance sport environment and this internship will provide the successful applicants with a unique opportunity to work in one of the most diverse sporting environments in Canada.

The “Peak Power Sport Development Practicum Program” is focused for undergrads and graduate students of Kinesiology, Exercise and Sports Science. The student contracts with Peak Power to provide specific objectives, outcomes and services that meet the students' learning goals as well as the needs of Peak Power Sport Development. Using work as the foundation, the students actively engage in their own educational and professional growth through conscious reflection and analysis. Along with the practical/hands on component the internship will follow a 15 week strength and conditioning curriculum to provide students with theoretical knowledge of important S & C topics. Interns will have the opportunity to work alongside and learn from an experienced Strength and Conditioning Coach and assist in the preparation and implementation of programming to over 700 SAIT Varsity, High School and Elite level athletes in men’s and women’s sports including; Olympic Weightlifting, Golf, Soccer, Lacrosse, Rugby, Football, Basketball, Hockey & Alpine Skiing.

- Intern should be competent in general exercise physiology and kinesiology Intern should be well versed in a variety of training techniques
- Intern should be professional, clean, honest, and responsible
- Intern should be good at time management

- Intern should be eager to learn and accepting of constructive criticism
- Intern must be comfortable interacting with others (staff, athletes, parents, coaches, etc.)

Students will have the opportunity to gain experience in many facets of strength and conditioning including:

o Olympic Weightlifting, Powerlifting and sport specific training
o Creating Programs and learn about periodization programs
o Working / coaching athletes of all ages and abilities
o Working with a variety of sports, teams and injuries

Strength and Conditioning Practicum Schedule

Peak Power Sports Development Practicum internships are scheduled according to academic terms. All practicum students are expected to work a minimum of forty hours per week throughout the duration of their 15-week term.

Term 1: September to December - App. Deadline: August 15th

Term 2: January to April - App. Deadline: December 1st 

Term 3: May to August - App. Deadline: March 31st
