Rugby Ontario Communications Intern

Under the supervision of the Communications Coordinator, the incumbent will support the delivery of key Rugby Ontario communications initiatives, such as:

Social Media, Web Publishing and Event Marketing

  • Assisting in developing communications and marketing plans for each event
  • Writing content for Rugby Ontario’s website
  • Assisting with social media campaigns; planning and writing (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc.) – leading up to, during and after events
  • Assisting in the preparation and delivery of various marketing materials and initiatives
  • Assisting with research generation: media, events, email lists, analytics, etc.
  • Archiving and assisting with the organization of Rugby Ontario media coverage
  • Contributing to setups/takedowns and general administration of events

Media Services

  • Archiving, digitizing and distributing media internally and externally
  • Sending all event-related media releases to appropriate media contacts
  • Coordinating media and photographer accreditation
  • Social media and web analytics

Required Skills:

  • Strong written skills, with attention to detail
  • Understanding of CP writing style and ability to apply it in an effective manner
  • Strong knowledge of social media, including fluency in the major platforms
  • Knowledge of industry best practices for various forms of digital communication
  • Basic website upkeep and maintenance skills
  • Strong desire to learn and a strong work ethic
  • Excellent time management and workplace co-operation skills
  • Ability to work effectively under tight deadlines
  • Competency in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Photography and Videography skills (shooting, editing and archiving abilities) are considered a valuable asset
  • Graphic design skills (Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator etc.) are considered a valuable asset
  • Understanding of sports and sports media is considered a valuable asset
  • Understanding of Ontario and Canadian rugby community is considered a valuable asset

Currently working towards a Bachelor’s degree or diploma program in a related field during the term of the internship

Financial Support:
$100 per month to assist with travel costs

This internship is based at the Rugby Ontario office, plus offsite events where relevant.
