Wheelchair Basketball Canada (WBC) has been awarded the right to host the 2017 Men’s U23 World Wheelchair Basketball Championship (2017 U23WWBC) June 8-16, 2017, in Toronto, Canada. Over 400 athletes, coaches, officials, delegates, and volunteers will attend the event that features 12 participating countries.

The 2017 Men’s U23WWBC Organizing Committee is seeking a dynamic, energetic and dedicated individual to lead Community Outreach for the 2017 U23WWBC event. The Outreach Coordinator will oversee community outreach and engagement initiatives and special events. He/she will work to increase awareness surrounding the event and build relationships with individuals, community groups, corporate groups, cultural groups and other organizations to maximize attendance at the event.

Position:              Community Outreach Coordinator – 2017 Men’s U23WWBC

Term:                   Full-time contract February 2017 – June 2017

Deadline:            January 20, 2017

Location:             Toronto, Ontario

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement outreach strategies to engage spectators to attend the 2017 Men’s U23 World Wheelchair Basketball Championship
  • Coordinate promotional events and initiatives leading up to the event
  • Identify relevant community events and coordinate participation in these events
  • Coordinate online outreach activities, including social media and website updates
  • Coordinate production and distribution of promotional campaign materials
  • Actively reach out to corporate groups, community groups and organizations to explore partnership opportunities
  • Adhere to assigned project budget and provide monthly progress reports

Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills;
  • Strong computer skills;
  • Flexibility and initiative;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
  • Ability to take direction and multi-task in a fast paced environment;
  • Proven ability to plan and execute events;
  • Event management experience; and
  • Oral and written fluency in both official languages would be considered an asset.

Terms of Contract:

  • 5-month contract
  • Based in Toronto
