Job Description


The High Performance Manager (HPM) Badminton Canada is responsible for the management of the operational activities of Badminton Canada’s High Performance and Event Programs.  The HPM will assist the Badminton Canada’s High Performance Director and High Performance Committee with the administration, organization and execution of the Badminton Canada - High Performance activities and the coordination of events


The position will be based at the Badminton Canada office in Ottawa and the successful candidate will work under the direct supervision of the Executive Director. 


HP Program Management and Planning

  1. Management ofHigh Performance Programs for badminton including:

    1. Podium Pathway

    2. Program infrastructure

    3. Integration on PSO/TSO HP activities

  2. Management of the selection criteria for HPC approval, for the following:

    1. Athlete Assistance Program

    2. National Team

    3. All International team and individual events

    4. All International multi-sport games

    5. AAP program implementation and monitoring. This includes:

      1. Manage the development of athlete nominations for HPC approval

      2. Act as primary contact person between Badminton Canada and Sport Canada for all AAP matters.

      3. Ensure that all nominated athletes complete the required documentation in order to receive funding.

  3. National Team Contracts. This includes:

    1. Development/modifications to National Team agreement on a yearly basis

    2. Ensuring the prompt collection of the contracts from the selected players

    3. Monitoring of players to ensure they are meeting their obligations in the contract.

  4. Management of team selection for International events using criteria approved by HPC.

  5. Advising the HPC on the activities and events that should be included in the annual and long-term HP Plan.

  6. Management and implementation of the Badminton Canada strategic plan as it relates to the High Performance area.

  7. Informing membership of Badminton Canada’s annual High Performance programs. Working with PSO’s and coordinating with their HP representatives.

  8. Coordinating the Badminton Canada response to any HP related appeals.


    Evaluation and Monitoring

    1)      Coordinating the work of the IST team with National team and compiling the information gathered.

    2)      Management and monitoring of any programs involving National Team Athletes.

    3)      Management and monitoring of any HP programs that receive Badminton Canada funding.

    4)      Monitoring and advising the activities of National Coaches as it relates to their commitments to Badminton Canada.

    5)      Monitoring the National Team with regards to their annual training plans and competitive activities.

    6)      Working with the IST team to support their recommendations and enforce them where necessary.

    7)      Maintain accurate knowledge and understanding of the high performance efforts of the National Badminton Sport Organizations of the top five nations, as well as with any other National Sport Organizations that have programs worthy of study.

    8)      Determine best practices and an international competitive analysis around each of our major competitors.


    Program & Event Development

    1)      Management of international training and learning opportunities for National Team Athletes and National Coaches.


    1)      Liaise with OTP and the OTP High Performance Advisor assigned to Badminton.

    2)      Coordinate HP connections with the COC.

    3)      Communication with Canadian Sport Centres

    4)      Coordinate Major Games preparation.


    Event Management


    The HPM is responsible for the oversight and hands-on planning and coordination of Badminton Canada’s domestic events.


    Key responsibilities and deliverables:

    1. Planning and documentation

    2. Event execution

    3. Event evaluation and reporting

    4. Communication with Event Hosts and PSO’s

    5. Liaise with Competition Committees

    6. On-site support as required


    The HPM will - support resource for international events held in Canada. These duties will include:

    1. Promotion of the events

    2. Assist host with website and social media activities

    3. On-site assistance of the host committee as determined by the Executive Director

    Education and Experience

  • Post-secondary education in Sports Science, Human Movement, Sports Administration or other relevant field is highly desirable.
  • At least five (5) years of experience in a High Performance / Event Management role
    Strong demonstrated supervisory skills
