‘Management by values’ (MBV) is an exciting new management approach that is designed to help organizations better achieve their vision by connecting their values to everyday decisions and actions. This workshop will explain the MBV approach, and how it both contrasts from, yet also complements, more traditional management approaches, including ‘management by instruction’ and ‘management by objectives’. Participants will learn how MBV can help sport administrators deal more effectively with the many issues and barriers that are surfacing in today’s complex environment. Lessons learned from other sport organizations will be shared, and participants will explore how values can be brought to life in policy, strategy, communications and decision-making.

This workshop will be presented by SIRC and the CENTRE FOR SPORT AND LAW, and will feature Dina Bell-Laroche.

$80 (non-members or same day registration)

It is now well established that sport organizations must be fair in their dealings with members. Many organizations have improved their capacity to deliver on procedural fairness through soundly administered appeal mechanisms and participation in the mediation and arbitration programs of the SDRCC (Sport Dispute Resolution Centre for Canada). But the fallout from member disputes continues and consumes valuable time, energy and goodwill (in addition to financial resources). New findings from the field of procedural justice have strong potential to help sport leaders minimize the harm that naturally accompanies a dispute. Participants in this workshop will learn from actual cases that involved the successful application of procedural justice principles to sport disputes, such as team selection and member discipline.

This workshop will be presented by SIRC and the CENTRE FOR SPORT AND LAW and will feature Hilary Findlay of Brock University and Rachel Corbett.
